Welcome to acmepartyworks.com!
Acme Partyworks began in 1992 out of the garage of Jay and Lynn Millar in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Dan Millar, at 17 years old, and his father Jay started the business part time by putting the Orbotron in Livonia Mall during the winter on a pay per play basis. After three months in Livonia Mall, Jay and Dan brought the Orbotron to Wonderland Mall for an additional two months. After 5 months in two malls, the Orbotron was rented out for the first time at a graduation party.
By 1994, Jay and Dan expanded their inventory by purchasing the Trampoline Thing, Sumo Wrestling, the Dino Bounce, an Obstacle Course, and the Gladiator Joust. At this point, Acme Partyworks was the only company in Michigan providing Sumo Wrestling. Acme Partyworks continued to gain new customers as the party rental company was beginning to out grow the family garage.
By 1997, Acme Partyworks had approximately 20 different party rental items and moved into its first office and warehouse location in Farmington Hills. Acme Partyworks continued to grow at a rapid rate and by 2000 had moved into a larger warehouse (approx 5,000 square feet).
Through the early 2000's many things were happening in Michigan. For many of the preceding years, Acme Partyworks was primarily focused on company picnics and corporate functions. In Michigan, many of the companies were scaling back the employee events, parties, and functions. During this period of change, Acme Partyworks began focusing not only on company related events, but also residental parties, chuch functions, school and college events, and more. Package pricing was enacted and Acme Partyworks continued to grow.
In 2000, this also marked an important change in the business. Acme Partyworks discontinued one of their most popular items that they first brought to Michigan: Sumo Wrestling. Acme Partyworks saw a great potential for injury throughout the years Sumo Wrestling was operated. A business decision was made to discontinue that item. Acme Partyworks had 8 suits in operation at this point. To this day in 2013, Sumo Wrestling is still a popular item that is rented by many companies across the country and world. Unfortunately there have been some deaths and other serious injuries as well. Acme Partyworks, thankfully, never had any serious injuries and is glad that they made that critical decision back in 2000.
In 2003, Acme Partyworks, under its incorporated name of Milco Inc. (short for Millar Company), diversified and began a manufacturing division. Acme Partyworks, for years, received lots of calls for rentals of birthday and over the hill related Yard Signs or 'Yard Greetings'. Because of this, self-contained Yard Greeting packages were designed and manufactured for the rental business. Milco, Inc. began selling the self-contained Yard Greeting packages in November 2004 at an amusement convention for the rental industry. You can view more info on the manufacturing side of Milco, Inc. by visting the Milco website.
In 2005, Acme Partyworks and Milco, Inc. moved into their 3rd office and warehouse location. This building, also in Farmington Hills, was 7,500 square feet.
In 2006, Milco took over the manufacturing, sales, and marketing of the most durable portable miniature golf on the market. This miniature golf has been manufactured since 1994. For more information on the miniature golf, please visit portable-mini-golf.com.
In 2009, Acme Partyworks spread its wings again and dove into the mechanical bull rental market. Acme Partyworks has alliances with hundreds of different independent contracts but couldn't find a reliable bull vendor.
In 2010, Acme Partyworks and Milco, Inc. moved into their 4th office and warehouse location (10,000 square feet). As of 2010, Acme Partyworks provides rentals for close to 2000 events annually. Acme's focus has always been on service. Providing safe equipment, being on time, having a friendly attitude, being available on the phone, and having clean equipment have always been characteristics of Acme Partyworks. As for the manufacturing division, it is continuing to grow as more businesses are adopting the Yard Greeting packages into their rental program. In addition, there is a a large number of home-based startup Yard Greeting businesses using Milco products. In 2012, Acme Partyworks and Milco, Inc. moved into their 5th office and warehouse Location in Novi Michigan (15,000 square feet). For the first time in the history of the company, Acme Partyworks now resides outsides of Farmington Hills. For 2012, Acme Partyworks provided equipment and entertainment for over 2,700 different events! Notable purchases in 2012 were the Day at the Derby, Monster Wave, Wild Rapids, and the Photo Booth.
In 2013, for the first time in the history of the company, Acme Partyworks does not own an Orbotron. Due to insurance restrictions and a few other factors, a business decision was made to sell the Orbotron. This was the first rental item that started the company out of the home garage in 1992. Out with the old and in with the new, Acme Partyworks purchased approximately 20-30 new or upgraded items in 2013. Some notable standout purchases for 2013 are the The Log Slammer, the Electric Trackless Train, the Volcano Water Slide, Beat the Bucket, and the Photo Booth Strip.
Acme Partyworks currently offers a wide rang of inflatables, interactive games, tent/table/chair rentals, yard greetings, children entertainers, water games, carnival games and more!
